Hello!
My name is Vincent Herkendell and I’ve been an exchange student at the St. Gerards School during 2017-2018. I’m gonna tell you something about my exchange year in transition year. The St. Gerards School is placed in bray, Ireland. It’s a beautiful area and the schools offers a huge amount of sport opportunities. The beautiful sport area was the main reason for me to come here and I have to say: I didn’t get disappointed. But on the contrary it was even better then I’ve expected.
On my first school day i felt kind of nervous because everything was new for me. The teachers and pupils welcomed me very kindly after I’ve arrived to St. Gerards. They introduced us to the school, led us around and told us how the year is gonna be like. So did the teachers over the whole year. They always helped us with any problems and made the day easier for us. Moreover we’ve got a subject called Tefl. That’s an extra subject for exchange students to improve their English. It’s basically like your English lessons in your school at your home.
But definitely the best thing are the trips the the school organized over the year. I will never forget the trip around Wicklow. That was a trip in November for the exchange students. They showed us the attractions of the county the school is located in . We got to see Glendalough and Powerscourt. Powerscourt is a beautiful area and it reminded me a lot of Versailles. Moreover we had a beautiful walk with lots of breathtaking promising points and a big sea.
All in all I can say it was the best decision I’ve ever done to do an exchange year and to take part in the St. Gerards School. I’ve enjoyed every single day of the year and I’m impressed of all the opportunities the school offers. My English made a huge progress and for me it’s still unbelievable how well the year went. And therefor St.Gerards was one of the main reasons. I didn’t count the days, I made the days count.
